A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.  It is an independent clause that contains a subject and a verb. A good sentence relays information and tells the receiver what is going on and does not leave him, her or they scratching their heads.

The subject of the sentence is usually a noun. A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing or idea. It can also be a proper noun.  A proper noun is a word that names a specific person, place or thing and is almost always capitalized.
